Tsunami

On December 26, 2004 , the day after Christmas, the world woke to the startling news of a major earthquake in the Indian Ocean measuring 8.9 on the Richter Scale. This earthquake resulted in large tsunami waves. The events of 26 th December 2004 literally changed the world. The reactions and consequences of the tsunami will be felt for many years to come.
It wrecked families all over the world and has caused sever damages in many of our neighboring nations. Tens of thousands lives have been lost and thousands remain missing. Several million people have become homeless and displaced. The human suffering has saddened all of us.
The worst affected countries included Sri Lanka , Indonesia , Southern parts of India , Thailand , Malaysia and the Maldives . The Indian States of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala were the worst hit.
As the Asian countries reeled under an unprecedented fury of the sea that lashed coastlines with massive tsunami waves, swallowing coastal towns and villages and claiming more than 150,000 lives and thousands still untraced, India not only helped itself but other countries devastated by the calamity.
